Fandoms collide! Game of Thrones season 4 has cast a Sherlock actor and executive producer as production begins to roll.

Mark Gatiss has joined the fourth outing of Game of Thrones for an unspecified role, Entertainment Weekly has revealed.

While we’re bummed that further details haven’t been shared, we are excited by the fact that an actor from the beloved Sherlock is heading over to the equally (or more) beloved Game of Thrones for HBO.

Gatiss plays Mycroft on Sherlock. The show’s third series is expected to premiere in England by the end of this year. The actor will attend Sherlock’s first ever San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend, and perhaps fans will grill him on this new Thrones role. It’ll be hard for fans to decide: “Should I ask about Sherlock?” or “Should I ask about Game of Thrones?”

Game of Thrones season 4 has cast one other role so far: The Red Viper. Yesterday we learned who would helm each episode of the highly-anticipated season based on George R.R. Martins’ A Song of Ice and Fire book series. The show began shooting last Monday.

The most popular fan theory is that Gatiss will be playing Mace Tyrell, the father of Joffrey’s wife-to-be Margaery.

However, considering that season 3 ended with Yara Greyjoy setting out to save her brother Theon, the show might also be looking to focus more on the Greyjoys in season 4. In that case, we think Gatiss would make a great Aeron (Damphair) or Euron!

'Game of Thrones' casts 'Rome' actress for season 4

Actress Indira Varma has been cast in season four. Varma will play Ellaria Sand on the show, the sexually adventurous paramour of a key new character, Prince Oberyn Martell “The Red Viper” (played by Pedro Pascal).
Since playing Niobe on HBO’s Rome, Varma has had roles on Fox’s Human Target along with UK dramas Silk and Hunted. Last year, the production added fellow Rome actor Ciarán Hinds.
Varma joins fellow season 4 new hires Pascal and Sherlock writer-actor Mark Gatiss. Coming off the show’s highest-rated and most-Emmy-nominated season yet, last week at Comic-Con, Thrones producers and cast told EW they expect season 4 will be the show’s best.

“We got more action, which is obviously more time consuming,” says showrunner David Benioff. “It’s a brutal shooting season ahead. But if we can make it through, yeah, I think it’s going to surpass season three. The last 3 episodes, there’s so many scenes we’ve been waiting for so long to do. And it just gets more and more fun to write for these characters. After three years of doing it, we have that much more comfort to make everything uncomfortable for them. We’re very excited for it.”

'Game of Thrones' Season 4: Roger Ashton-Griffiths cast as Mace Tyrell

"Game of Thrones" fans, meet your Mace Tyrell. George R.R. Martin confirmed on his blog that actor Roger Ashton-Griffiths will play the father of Margaery and Loras Tyrell and son of Olenna Tyrell in the upcoming Season 4 of the hit HBO series.
This puts to rest rumors that Mark Gatiss will play the Tyrell patriarch. When Zap2it caught up with Gatiss at a San Diego Comic-Con party, he told us then that he had filmed for a week in Belfast. That was a major clue that Gatiss wasn't playing Mace, and gave some context for the locations his part could be set in. One theory is that Gatiss is playing one of Balon Greyjoy's brothers, likely Aeron (though that would mean Gatiss wore quite the wig). He also could play a character at the Eyrie, since that is a location Season 4 is returning to, or someone else we haven't even thought of yet.

Michiel Huisman (Treme) s-a alăturat distribuției sezonului 4 Game of Thrones. Surse din cadrul The Hollywood Reporter susțin că acesta îl va înlocui pe Ed Skerin în rolul Daario Naharis.
